He would be 27 this year.

My son, AJ Betts, died by suicide ten years ago. The bullies won.
Every year, my family goes out to eat cheeseburgers on AJ’s birthday, to celebrate his life. He would be 27 this year.
Tonight, we chose to eat at Five Guys Enterprises in West Des Moines. You can’t get a better burger.
As soon as we walked in, we saw this sign. An anonymous friend was permitted to hang it. I cannot describe the feeling of gratefulness in my heart! My greatest fear is that AJ will be forgotten, but here is a sign, assuring me that will not happen.
I broke down crying, and the staff was absolutely fabulous. They showed understanding and empathy. I am so grateful for them.
And after we ordered, we were informed that an anonymous friend paid for our meal AND the tip! A true gesture from the AJ Betts playbook!
As soon as I started to eat, a song that always reminds me of AJ came on the radio.
AJ Betts lives. I see that now. My heart is full. – sjm
