The Future of Control: North American Company Launches New Fixed Index Annuity
May 2, 2023 by North American Company for Life and Health Insurance
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Today North American Company for Life and Health Insurance®, a member company of Sammons® Financial Group, launched the NAC Control. X℠ fixed index annuity (FIA).
NAC Control. X is a single-premium, deferred fixed index annuity with optional Total Control rider1 allowing customers more control over their annuity growth and income timeline. This FIA offers first-to-market income flexibility with the optional Total Control Rider. Customers can activate an amount of income when they need it without giving up future potential income flexibility or growth. NAC Control. X offers customers certainty in an uncertain future and allows them the ability to control their own unique retirement plan.
With NAC Control. X, policy owners can earn interest credits from a fixed account and multiple indexed account options allocated to their accumulation value. Although fixed index annuities are not a direct investment in the stock market, they provide the potential for interest to be credited based in part on the performance of specific indices. This allows the annuity owner to have both protection from downside market risk and the advantage of growth potential through multiple index strategies. NAC Control. X index opportunities allow access to leading financial brands S&P and Barclays. The new exclusive Barclays Transitions Indices are designed to follow the equity markets and capture as much upside as possible while managing risk during changing market conditions.
“Annuity customers may feel anxious tying up a big piece of their nest egg – it is simply a concern that we often hear,” said Bryce Biklen, North American’s chief distribution officer. “With NAC Control. X and the advent of its optional Total Control Rider, clients can activate separate income streams2 at different times. This flexibility allows the annuity owner to only take what they need, when they need it.”
In addition to the multiple income streams available through the Total Control Rider, clients have an option to leverage an activities of daily living (ADL) lifetime payout annuity (LPA) multiplier3. This multiplier benefit allows customers to potentially receive an increased lifetime income payment for up to five additional payments. If needed and qualifications are met, the ADL LPA can be used to help cover increasing personal care costs.
Additionally, NAC Control. X offers competitive liquidity options, penalty-free withdrawals, nursing home care waivers, and a death benefit. Some provisions may not be available in all states and circumstances.
“People want to feel confident that they’ve made the right choices as they plan for retirement. This FIA offers a heightened level of assurance in that regard,” added Biklen. “We know we can’t control everything life throws at us. That is why North American seeks to develop products that help clients feel more confident to control what they can.”
1For an additional charge. Optional Total Control rider is attached to the base product for an annual rider charge of 1.25% of the total income base
2Income streams can begin in year 2 and starting at age 50.
3The LPA ADL Multiplier requires a 2-year minimum wait period and can be paid out for a maximum of five annual payments as long as the covered person continues to meet the requirements on each payment. Confirmation that the covered person continues to meet the requirements will be required on an annual basis. Certain conditions and limitations apply. See contract for complete details.

Fixed index annuities are not a direct investment in the stock market. They are long term insurance products with guarantees backed by the issuing company. They provide the potential for interest to be credited based in part on the performance of specific indices, without the risk of loss of premium due to market downturns or fluctuation. Although fixed index annuities guarantee no loss of premium due to market downturns, deductions from your accumulation value for optional benefit riders or strategy fees or charges associated with allocations to enhanced crediting methods could exceed interest credited to the accumulation value, which would result in loss of premium. They may not be appropriate for all clients. Interest credits to a fixed index annuity will not mirror the actual performance of the relevant index.
