In the wake of AJ’s death, I have found that I have become something I never intended to…an advocate

When AJ Betts, my firstborn child, died- my world ended.
And then- the unthinkable happened.
In the wake of AJ’s death, I have found that I have become something I never intended to…an advocate. Today, I am an advocate for organ donation, advocate for suicide prevention, and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, an advocate against bullying, an advocate against racism, and an advocate for treating others as you wish to be treated.
I have accomplished many great things in the wake of AJ’s death, but getting the law changed so that gay men can donate blood is probably at the top of the list. It is hard to admit that good has come of my child’s death. However, I cannot ignore how his passing has brought gifts.
