STATESVILLE, N.C. – A federal judge has dismissed bids by insurance executive Greg Lindberg and his fellow co-defendants to have bribery and related charges against them thrown out of court.
The ruling by District Judge Max O. Cogburn Jr. of North Carolina’s Western District clears a path to a scheduled Feb. 18 trial for Lindberg, the chairman of investment company Eli Global and owner of Global Bankers Insurance Group, an insurance and reinsurance management company, and two of his co-defendants.
He and two associates, along with then-North Carolina GOP Chairman Robin Hayes, were indicted in April on charges of conspiracy and bribery for their alleged attempts to influence state Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey with a promise of $2 million in campaign donations.
