Nationwide will repay the state nearly $3 million in incentives after failing to maintain promised jobs

Nationwide Mutual Insurance will repay the state of Iowa about $3 million in incentives it received to expand its downtown Des Moines insurance and financial services campus.
The Ohio-based company said it added the 1,570 jobs it promised to create in 2005 with a $158 million expansion, but acknowledged it’s unable to maintain the required total through 2023 as originally promised.
