2019 Fixed Index Annuity Volatility Control Indices Overview Available
May 20, 2019 by Advantage Compendium, Ltd.
CKINNEY, TX – 15 May 2019 – Over fifty volatility control indices are being offered in today’s fixed index annuities (FIAs), according to a new FIA vol-control index digest from volcontrol.com researched by Advantage Compendium, Ltd. Notable vol-control index changes include:
- Over the last year eleven new vol-controlled indices entered the FIA space and seven are no longer open to new annuity buyers.
- While only 27% of 2016 vol-controlled indices were excess return based – meaning the yield of a predetermined interest benchmark is first deducted from any index gains – 48% of the indices now use an excess return calculation.
- For calendar year 2017 the 12 month returns of FIA vol-controlled indices averaged a gain of 12.6%; for 2018 the average FIA vol-controlled index lost 3.3% before fees or spreads.
The renewed growth in these offerings means plenty of choice is available to consumers. But it also means that fixed index annuity specialists need to stay on top of an ever-expanding and evolving vol-control universe to remain competitive.
