Former Standard CEO Dies at 70

Eric Edmond Parsons, 70, a former chairman and chief executive officer of Standard Insurance Company of Portland, Ore., died Wednesday, according to Standard.
Parsons began working for the Standard in 1968. He later became the chief financial officer. He succeeded Ron Timpe as the chief executive officer of the holding company StanCorp Financial Group Inc., in 2002.
Parsons, in turn, was succeeded by the company’s current chairman, president and CEO, J. Greg Ness, in 2009, as the 2007-2009 Great Recession was cresting.
Parsons was a graduate of Lewis & Clark College and Northwestern University’s School of Mortgage Banking. He held the Fellow in the Life Management Institute professional designation.
