March 8, 2018 by Wink's RockStars
The Bank Insurance & Securities Association’s (BISA) Diversity Committee approved Victoria Peterson’s Rising Star application. The Rising Star program recognizes BISA members who have demonstrated outstanding promise and commitment to diversity and inclusion in the financial industry. Individuals with outstanding leadership skills were encouraged to apply.
Valuing diversity of thought and experiences that span a broad spectrum of abilities, the program highlights diverse and inclusive environments, as well as equal access to resources and opportunities. The program is for individuals from the financial industry under the age of 40 to include but not limited to differ by gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, veteran status, and gender identity and expression.
The Rising Stars were recognized at the BISA Annual Convention in Hollywood, FL at the Diplomat Beach Resort at the Early Bird Networking Reception on March 6th and at the Awards Ceremony & Keynote Session on March 7th.
Rising Stars will also have the opportunity to participate on Thursday, March 8th in a concurrent session titled, “How to Attract and Retain Next Generation Talent – Insights from some of our Rising Stars.” Panel discussion topics are
- Culture – What type of company culture appeals to you? What do you like about your current company’s culture?
- Community Involvement – Why is community involvement important? How do you and/or company get involved?
- Understanding how they found their jobs – How did you find your first job? The job you are currently in? LinkedIn, Social Media, etc?
We had the opportunity to ask Victoria before the panel session about our company culture and community involvement at Wink. The name “Wink” represents the company’s mission, to make insurance fun while providing the best darned competitive intelligence to the life insurance and annuity industries, and we have the culture to match.
“One of my biggest goals in running the operations at Wink, Inc. is to provide and maintain a very progressive and inclusive culture. It is my goal to overcome the somewhat stuffy perception that the financial service industry receives. We cater to hundreds of insurance carriers, banks, and disturbers and it is very important to me that we work very hard to provide unmatched competitive intelligence and data but also have fun doing it.” explained Victoria.
“I have implemented a number of things that encourage a more positive work/life balance. These include things like a 36-hour work week, unlimited PTO, and casual dress. I also bring in a massage therapist every six weeks for my employees to receive 30-60 minute massages. We also enjoy frequent company outings that include lunches, semi-pro baseball games, team-building activities such as the Escape Chambers, movies, and more. It is my goal that my employees remain happy in their position and they will thus provide incredible work for our clients.” she stated.
Wink also embraces a culture of giving. The collective Wink family is very grateful and as a result, we are diligent in “paying it forward”. Victoria described our community involvement as supporting organizations that are near and dear to the hearts of our employees. “We give annually to a charity of each of our employees choosing in addition to many, many more. These can be in our own community or nation/worldwide. We volunteer our work/personal time in our community to Des Moines Parks & Recreation, Grandview Little League, Meals of the Heartland, Single Parent Provision and Central Iowa Out of Darkness walk, to name a few. I also push that we do one random act of kindness for a deserving person, family or organization every other month.”
We are thrilled with Wink’s progressive culture and Victoria’s dedication to attracting (and maintaining!) young talent who will continue to help us grow our business. Please join us in congratulating Victoria on her acceptance to the Rising Star program!
