Great American Insurance Group has a new division president.
Mark Muething has been named president of the company’s annuity group in addition to his duties as chief operating officer and general counsel for the division.
Muething joined American Annuity Group, the predecessor to Great American’s annuity group, nearly 25 years ago as senior vice president and general counsel. He became executive vice president in 1999, and in 2012 become chief operating officer, which includes overseeing annuity distribution, operations, information technology and legal functions. Prior to joining Great American, Muething was an associate and partner at Cincinnati law firm Keating, Muething & Klekamp.
“I am pleased to promote Mark to president of Great American’s annuity group, given his outstanding leadership abilities and long tenure within our operations,” parent company American Financial Group co-CEO Craig Lindner said in a statement. “Mark has been a tremendous partner to me and I look forward to working with him in this new role.”
Muething received a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.
Great American is a subsidiary of downtown-based American Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: AFG) that focuses primarily on property and casualty insurance for businesses along with the sale of traditional fixed and fixed-indexed annuities in the retail, financial institution and education markets.
