Four major life-annuity manufacturers are listed among the 50 Best Places to Work in 2017, reports a 2nd annual survey published by Indeed, a search engine for U.S. job listings.
The four insurers — Nationwide, Northwestern Mutual, USAA and Ameriprise Financial — merited spots in the top 50 based on reviews posted by Indeed visitors on the companies’ web pages. The rankings score the companies both overall and in terms of individual criteria of interest to job-seekers.
Nationwide secured the highest ranking among the four insurers, nabbing 34th place in the listing. Northwestern Mutual, USAA and Ameriprise placed, respectively, 43rd, 44th and 48th in the rankings.
No life-annuity manufacturer made Indeed’s debut top 50 2016 list. A spokesperson for the job search engine was unavailable to comment by press time on the four carriers’ rankings this year.
What do the 50 employers in Indeed’s 2017 rankings have in common? In addition to substantial revenues, the job search engine flags the businesses’ “strong company culture” and “shared values.” The job site also praises the companies as leaders in their respective sectors.
To develop its top 50 list, Indeed culled more than 15 million employee reviews of companies, factoring into its rankings employers also included in 2017’s Fortune 500 list. In the Fortune rankings, Nationwide secured the 68th spot, up from 69th place in 2016.
Northwestern Mutual ranked 97th (up from 100th) and USAA 102nd (up from 114th). Ameriprise, in 239th place (down from 232nd last year), is among the top 250 companies.
As in 2016, cloud-based software developer Salesforce and Southwest Airlines secured the number one and two spots, respectively, in Indeed’s top 50 listings. In respect to Salesforce, employees lauded the IT company’s “great perks and benefits” and touted its “fast-paced culture that rewards self-starters…” Indeed notes also that the software firm ranks highest on four measures: compensation, culture, management ratings and work life balance.
Rounding out the top five in the 2017 rankings are JetBlue Airways, Facebook, and Google. In 2016, positions three through five were held by Anadarko Petroleum, Pioneer Natural Resources and Philip Morris, respectively.
Indeed job-seekers scored the 50 companies based on their location, industry and job type. Also weighed were the companies’ culture, compensation, advancement opportunities and management, among other criteria.
