  • Best’s Review: How Chief Digital Officers Are Bringing the Amazon Experience to Buying Insurance

May 4, 2017 by Lynna Goch

OLDWICK, N.J. – With mobile devices now outnumbering people (8 billion to 7.5 billion) and consumers expecting instantaneous transactions on their phones (think Amazon and Airbnb) insurers are being pushed to transform their customer experience into the digital era. To bring about this change many insurers are hiring chief digital officers.

In the May issue Best’s Review examines the many ways CDOs are fulfilling the digital mission and looks at what skills are needed to be successful.

“Virtually every P&C, and now life and annuity, company is undergoing some form of digital transformation,” said Dave Hollander, global insurance advisory leader and principal for EY.

    Also in the May issue:

    — “Directing the Digital Journey” examines how CDOs are fitting into the C-suite and integrating their digital vision into company culture and practices.

    — “A Needle in a Haystack” looks at what insurers must do to attract top CDO candidates when demand is rising and the talent supply is dwindling.

    — “Outside the Box” provides an in-depth look at how MassMutual is pursuing its transformation with the help of its digital platform Haven Life.

    — As cryptocurrencies, like bitcoin, go mainstream, find out why many insurers are hesitant to cover them and how some are seeking to create products to profit from this new reality in “The Other Side of the Coin.”
