New York Life Names Executive Vice President of Government Affairs

NEW YORK – New York Life Insurance Co. has promoted George Nichols to a new position as executive vice president in charge of the office of government affairs.
Nichols, a former Kentucky insurance commissioner, led the government affairs office since 2007 but now is also responsible for enterprise supporting long-term objectives, according to a company statement.
He continues to report to Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ted Mathas, and serve on the company’s executive management committee.
“George’s leadership and expertise have been major contributors to our continued growth and success,” said Mathas in a statement. “He has … represented our company on the complex issues shaping the political, financial and regulatory landscapes around the world. I look forward to partnering with him on advancing our strategic agenda.”
Nichols joined New York Life in 2001 as a senior vice president and assistant to the chairman. He also served as a senior vice president in the agency department and as the company’s profit center head for New York Life’s AARP Tampa operations.
