NCOIL COMMUNICATES WILLINGNESS OF STATE LEGISLATORS TO WORK WITH CONGRESS
Sent Letters about Future of Dodd-Frank and Affordable Care Act
Manasquan, NJ: As the 115th Congress has begun work to reform the Affordable Care Act and the Dodd-Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act, the National Conference of Insurance Legislators has communicated with the Chair and Ranking Members of the Senate Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs Committee; the Senate Finance Committee; the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee; the House Financial Services Committee; the House Energy & Commerce Committee and the House Ways and Means Committee as well as the Leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives expressing NCOIL’s commitment to working with Congress in the months to come when considering changes to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street and Consumer Protection Act and the Affordable Care Act.
“As state lawmakers, we are the front line of insurance legislation” said Kentucky Rep. Steve Riggs, NCOIL President. “We deal with the effects of federal legislation that encroaches on state authority and could be detrimental to the consumers or market competitiveness.”
NCOIL is a legislative organization comprised principally of legislators serving on State insurance and financial institutions committees around the nation. NCOIL writes Model Laws in insurance, works to both preserve the State jurisdiction over insurance as established by the McCarran-Ferguson Act seventy years ago and to serve as an educational forum for public policy makers and interested parties. Founded in 1969, NCOIL works to assert the prerogative of legislators in making state policy when it comes to insurance and educate state legislators on current and perennial insurance issues.
“We invite Congress to have frequent and robust discussions with NCOIL as we are an accomplished group of bi-partisan, solutions-oriented legislators from around the country who are ready to help Congress face the difficult tasks before it” said Commissioner Tom Considine, NCOIL CEO. “We stand ready to work with Congress and share our expertise.”
