June 15, 2016 by New York Life
NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–New York Life, the largest mutual life insurance company in the U.S. and the market leader in income annuities, has named Dylan Huang senior managing director and head of its retail annuities business. With $80 billion in assets under management and sales of $12 billion in 2015, retail annuities is New York Life’s second largest line of business and the company ranks among the industry’s top ten annuity providers. Huang will lead all aspects of the business including product development and management, marketing, sales, service, strategy, and research and analytics. He reports to Chris Blunt, president of New York Life Investments.
Huang joined New York Life in 2001 and has spent the last eight years in the company’s annuities business. In this role, Huang built a number of retirement products available through New York Life agents and third party advisers, including the company’s Guaranteed Future Income Annuity. Now the standard for its category, this innovative solution was the strongest sales introduction of any new annuity product in the company’s history and established today’s robust market for deferred income annuities among pre-retirees.
Huang is a patent-holder for products developed under his leadership. He is also a recognized thought leader whose research on how guaranteed income can optimize retirement portfolios, titled, “The Efficient Income Frontier: A Product Allocation Framework for Retirement,” was awarded the Retirement Industry Associations Practitioner’s Thought Leadership Award in 2012. Huang has also had multiple articles published in the association’s Retirement Management Journal.
Huang holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of British Columbia, and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He is a member of the Board of Directors at the Insured Retirement Institute and also is on the advisory board of the New York Life Center for Retirement Income at The American College. Huang is originally from Taipei, Taiwan and has lived in Seattle and Vancouver. He currently resides in New York City with his wife and their two boys.
