MassMutual Appoints Chief Financial Officer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co.’s current chief enterprise officer/chief actuary has been promoted to chief financial officer.
Elizabeth “Betsy” Ward, who joined subsidiary Babson Capital Management in 2001, will succeed Michael Rollings, effective June 1, according to a statement from MassMutual’s parent, MassMutual Financial Group. Rollings has been named CFO of the Vanguard Group, based in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, after spending the past 10 years as the insurer’s CFO.
Ward will assume responsibility for overall financial strategy and management at MassMutual and will continue to report to Roger W. Crandall, chairman, president and chief executive officer of MassMutual. In the statement, Crandall said Ward’s “demonstrated investment experience, strong financial acumen, collaborative approach and proven leadership” qualified her for her new post.
She has been chief enterprise risk officer since 2007 and chief actuary since 2015, according to the statement.
Before joining Babson, Ward served as managing director at MassMutual investment affiliate Charter Oak Capital Management starting in 1996.
Operating units of MassMutual Financial Group have a current Best’s Financial Strength Rating of A++ (Superior).
