Prudential Names New COO for Group Insurance Division

NEWARK, N.J. – Prudential Group Insurance has named a new chief operations officer for its group insurance division.
The company said David Zona, previously the division’s chief underwriting officer, has taken the COO position. In his new post, Zona is responsible for all underwriting, claims and service delivery functions across the division and for developing and implementing service, profitability and risk management strategies.
Prudential Group Insurance manufactures and distributes group life, long-term and short-term disability and corporate- and trust-owned life insurance in the United States to institutional customers, primarily for employee and membership benefit plans. The unit also sells critical illness, accident, accidental death and dismemberment and other ancillary coverages.
Prudential has been focused on its group insurance area as one of several units targeted for growth opportunities (Best’s News Service, Oct. 22, 2015).
Zona joined Prudential Group Insurance earlier this year after serving as senior vice president with Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, the global industrial insurer of Allianz Group. In his career, he has also worked at Nationwide Insurance and American International Group.
His “broad organizational leadership experience, approach to risk portfolio management and success delivering significant improvements leveraging predictive analytics” were cited by Group Insurance president Andrew Sullivan in a statement.
Prudential Financial is the second-largest publicly held insurance company in North America ranked by 2014 assets of $766.6 billion, according to BestLink.
