Memorial set for former Deputy Insurance Commissioner Mumford

Former Iowa insurance regulator Jim Mumford passed away Monday at the age of 78. Mumford served as first deputy insurance commissioner for the Iowa Insurance Division from 2005 until 2015. He simultaneously served as administrator of the Iowa Securities Industry & Regulated Industries Bureau for six of those years following the bureau’s combination with the insurance division. During his tenure, Mumford was a strong advocate of state-level regulations regarding the industry, suitability and better products for seniors. “Jim Mumford was an integral part of the growth and evolution of the annuity industry,” said Chip Anderson, executive director of the National Association for Fixed Annuities. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m.at the Jackson Building on the Madison County Fairgrounds in Winterset.
