CEO says private equity ‘mixed bag’ for insurance

Athene Holding Ltd., the insurer tied to Apollo Global Management LLC, said it’s sensitive to the risks of private-equity firms buying insurers and that the trend could be a “mixed bag” for an industry with decades-long obligations to policyholders.
“I share those concerns,” Athene Chief Executive Officer Jim Belardi said Wednesday at a conference in New York held by Standard & Poor’s. “But I think prudent equity capital, that’s in it for the long term and pays attention to risk management — from whatever source — I think it’s a very good thing, and we’re a big proponent of that.” Click here to read…
