Wink’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
September 10, 2014 by Jamie Johnson
Wink recently joined the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce and celebrated their location in Pleasant Hill, Iowa on Tuesday September 9th, 2014 with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Wink’s CEO, Sheryl J. Moore, purchased the building at 5148 E. University Avenue over two years ago after doubling her staff and outgrowing their previous office. The building, remodeled from a former doctor office, now houses two of Moore’s companies– Wink, Inc. and Moore Market Intelligence.
Moore Market Intelligence assists with the product development of indexed annuity and life products. Wink provides annuity and life insurance competitive intelligence tools to insurers, distributors, sales professionals, and consulting firms. “My grandmother would say that I’m the president of an insurance company, but that’s not quite what I do,” a blushing Moore stated.
Ms. Moore stated that 80% of what Wink does, they are not paid for. Every day Wink provides advocacy work and serves as a fact-checking resource for insurers and the media. Wink doesn’t endorse any firm or products. They do however, support local charities.
“We’ve been very active in giving back to our community. We support a number of nonprofits including The March of Dimes, Shriners Hospitals for Children, American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and others. In any given year, up to 40% of our revenues go to charity. We believe in paying-it-forward.” explained Moore.
Moore’s belief in charitable giving was only strengthened by the death of her son, AJ Betts. Moore said “He was 16 years old when he passed, over a year ago. He was born with birth defects and health problems and identified himself as gay. As a result, he was the target of bullying and he committed suicide in response to the teasing. The past year was the hardest of my life. But it has only strengthened my commitment to give back.”
At Wink’s ribbon cutting ceremony, Moore presented a donation to ASK Resource for their bully prevention work. Moore knew AJ would be proud of the anti-bullying awareness and education that ASK Resource has provided. Wink previously assisted with ASK Resource’s Walk the Talk Bully Prevention Training Curriculum.
Wink and Ms. Moore are also awaiting an approval to donate to the Take A Seat campaign at Southeast Polk High School; donating seats for the auditorium in AJ’s memory. Next week, you’ll find the Wink team and their families out participating in the upcoming Central Iowa’s Out of the Darkness Walk by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
At the completion of the ribbon cutting ceremony, local cupcakes from Momma CT’s Cupcakes– a fellow member of the chamber–were enjoyed by all, along with a tour of the Wink office.
