MassMutual whistle-blower identified
August 22, 2014 by Emily Holbrook
Bill Lloyd is 56 years old and spent 22 years as an agent for MassMutual Financial Group. Lloyd was not, as many labeled as a whistleblower are, an unsatisfied, angry employee. Quite the contrary. Lloyd loved his job and — most of all — loved his clients. That’s why he made the decision to take an unethical situation to those in command at MassMutual. When nothing was done about it, he took his case to the SEC. He was awarded $400,000 for blowing the whistle on a MassMutual annuity advertised as one thing but that delivered something much different.
For six years, the SEC has declined to reveal the identity of a whistle-blower who reported problems within MassMutual. Now he’s sharing his story.
