Western & Southern Financial Names Former Wide Receiver for Cincinnati Bengals as CIO

CINCINNATI – Western & Southern Financial Group named a former wide receiver with the Cincinnati Bengals as chief investment officer and senior vice president for Western & Southern and Fort Washington Investment Advisors Inc.
In his new position, Steven K. Kreider will oversee the investment activity for all assets under management for Fort Washington and its divisions and subsidiaries. Fort Washington is the money management and primary investment arm of Western & Southern, with more than $46.4 billion in assets as of Dec. 31, 2013.
Before Fort Washington, Kreider also served as head of insurance asset management at Western Asset Management Co. in New York. He also served as managing director for Morgan Stanley Investment Management in New York.
Nicholas P. Sargen, current CIO and senior vice president, will remain with the company and transition to a new position of chief economist and senior investment adviser. As chief economist and senior investment adviser, he will continue to bolster the company’s business through his economic expertise and contributions to various affiliates and certain clients.
Assets owned and managed by Western & Southern Financial Group totaled about $69 billion at March 31, 2014. Western & Southern has six life insurance subsidiaries: The Western and Southern Life Insurance Co., Western-Southern Life Assurance Co., Columbus Life Insurance Co., Integrity Life Insurance Co., The Lafayette Life Insurance Co. and National Integrity Life Insurance Co.
The Western and Southern Life Insurance Co. and the other life insurance company subsidiaries of Western & Southern each currently have a Best’s Financial Strength Rating of A+ (Superior).
