Jeffrey Zimpleman, son of Principal CEO, dies at 36

Jeffrey Zimpleman, the son of Principal Financial Group CEO Larry Zimpleman, died Thursday, May 29, while traveling in Germany.
He was 36. A cause of death was not provided.
Larry Zimpleman was called away from the Principal Charity Classic, which the financial services giant sponsors, on Thursday because of an emergency, the Register had reported last week.
Jeffrey Zimpleman lived in Richmond, Va., and was born in Des Moines. He grew up in Clive and graduated from Valley High School in West Des Moines in 1996.
Zimpleman earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Dartmouth College in 2000, a master’s degree in chemistry from Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif., in 2004 and a master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University in 2006.
He worked as a business manager for Capital One Financial Corp., according to his profile on LinkedIn. Prior to Capital One, he worked for JMZ Consulting and Ansell, an Australian manufacturer.
Zimpleman is survived by his parents, Larry and Kathleen; two brothers, Christopher and Thomas; his sister-in-law, Anne King; and his grandmother, Arlene.
A service will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 720 Orchard Hills Drive in Norwalk, followed by a visitation from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday. A Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday. The obituary can be found here.
