UPDATED: As promised: the top ten carriers for Total Overall Indexed Universal Life Sales from 1998-2013!
Since 1998 we have been tracking indexed annuity and indexed universal life sales by insurance carrier for each quarter. We report on their year-end sales in our 4th Quarter Wink’s Sales & Market Reports. I thought it would be interesting to compile all the results to see which companies are the top ten for overall sales. Previously, we had published the Top Ten Overall Indexed Annuity Sales.
Aviva takes position #1 on the chart for Total Overall Indexed Indexed Universal Life Sales with $1,283 million. Pacific Life is in a strong second overall, with Aegon, National Life Group, and AIG all coming in close to round out the top five.
Updated: We began tracking the individual product sales of indexed universal life (UL) products (target Premium for indexed ULs and 10% of single premium indexed life products’ single premiums) in the second quarter of 2008.
Which products are in the top ten of the best-selling indexed ULs of all time, from 2nd Quarter 2008 through year-end 2013?
The Top Selling Indexed UL of All Time with a total of $380 million in total indexed universal life sales is AXA’s Athena Indexed Universal Life. Pacific Life has the second and tenth highest sales with their Pacific Indexed Accumulator III and Pacific Indexed Accumulator 4. Aviva also has two products in the top ten; their Lifetime Builder came in fourth and Advantage Builder fifth. Minnesota Life, Penn Mutual, Lincoln Benefit, and Allianz Life all have a best-selling indexed UL in the top ten.

Indexed life sales include target premiums for universal products, full premiums for whole life products, and 10% of single premiums for true single premium life designs.
