AIG Taps Former New York Life Executive as SVP of Annuity Distribution

HOUSTON – American International Group Inc. has tapped a former executive with New York Life Investments to develop and execute annuity sales strategies for its independent brokerage platform and for its newly launched career sales channel — AIG Financial Network.
Liza Tyler, with 20 years experience in the industry, was named senior vice president, annuity distribution at AIG Financial Distributors. She also will lead relationship management.
Before AIG, Tyler most recently was vice president, relationship management for New York Life Investments, where she and her team supported the company’s retail partner firms. Prior to that role, she served 14 years with Genworth Financial (NYSE: GNW), where she oversaw operations and internal sales, and previously served as an external wholesaler and divisional sales manager.
Tyler brings “a successful track record of partnering with advisers from wirehouses, banks, and independent firms to AIG,” said John Deremo, executive vice president and chief distribution officer, life insurance, AIG Financial Distributors, in a statement. She will lead AIG’s annuity sales, manage the relationships with independent marketing organizations that distribute the company’s products to independent agents, and provide support for broker-dealers, as well as within AIG Financial Network, he said.
Earlier this month, AIG (NYSE: AIG) announced the new distribution group it says will “transform” the career agent channel of its American General Life Insurance Co. business, and is geared to experienced and new financial sales professionals and representatives.
AIG’s career distribution channel is building on its focus on protection products, including life insurance, with advisers but also expanding to include capabilities in retirement planning, Deremo previously told Best’s News Service (Best’s News Service, Jan. 14, 2014).
