Kansas’ loss is going to be Iowa’s gain, according to a spokesman for Athene USA.
The West Des Moines-based insurer plans to close its office in Topeka, Kan., by the end of the year and shift the positions there to Iowa, according to Athene USA Spokesman Steven Carlson. It means about 225 new jobs for West Des Moines.
“Yes, I can confirm that Athene USA has decided to transition the work and the jobs currently performed in Topeka, Kan., to our U.S. operations headquarters in West Des Moines,” he said. “We informed employees today that this transition will occur throughout 2014, and we will close the Topeka office by the end of the year.”
Some Topeka staffers will be given a chance to relocate to Iowa.
“Through the combination of transfers and the recruiting and hiring of new people, we will be adding approximately 225 new full-time jobs in West Des Moines over the next six or eight months,” he said. “This represents significant job growth for the city of West Des Moines and the state of Iowa.”
