John Hancock Financial Names John G. Vrysen as President, John Hancock Annuities

BOSTON, Dec. 20, 2011 —
BOSTON, Dec. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — John Hancock Financial Services has named John G. Vrysen to serve as President of its Annuities business, effective immediately. The annuities business includes fixed and variable annuities, immediate annuities, structured settlements and institutional fixed products. In his new role, Mr. Vrysen reports to Hugh McHaffie, President, U.S. Wealth Management.
“John has held many leadership roles at our company, including spending several years in the Variable and Fixed Annuities businesses, making him an excellent choice to lead those businesses today,” said James R. Boyle, President of John Hancock Financial Services.
Previously, Mr. Vrysen had served as head of Strategic Initiatives for John Hancock since 2008, directing projects that included the recently completed merger of a number of the company’s life insurance subsidiaries, resulting in a more efficient capital and operating structure. In his 34-year career with Manulife and John Hancock, he has held a variety of positions, including chief actuary for variable annuities, chief financial officer for US operations, chief operations officer for Wood Logan, general manager of fixed annuities, and chief operating officer for John Hancock Funds. He is currently a Director/Trustee on the boards of John Hancock Life Insurance Company (U.S.A.) and John Hancock Funds.
Mr. Vrysen succeeds Marc Costantini as head of John Hancock’s annuities businesses. Mr. Costantini has taken on responsibility for Strategic Initiatives, and will report to Mr. Boyle.
