Personnel Changes: AIG, Allianz, Midland National, Summit Re, Ochs

American International Group Inc. (AIG) has named Charlie Shamieh AIG senior vice president-corporate chief actuary.
Shamieh has been executive director of enterprise risk management at AIG, New York (NYSE:AIG).
In addition to being AIG’s top actuary, Shamieh will be responsible for rating agency relations and for statutory and rating agency capital management, AIG says.
Shamieh has a bachelor’s degree in economics with a major in actuarial science from Macquarie University. He has practiced as a life and pensions actuary and as a property-casualty actuary.
In other personnel news:
– Allianz Life Insurance Company of North America, Golden Valley, Minn., a unit of Allianz S.E., Munich, Germany, has hired Karen Gemmill to be senior director of product innovation. Gemmill will be involved with products such as fixed annuities and indexed annuities.
Gemmill previously was vice president of consumer marketing at Ameriprise Financial Inc., Minneapolis (NYSE:AMP).
Gemmill has a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin. She also has a master’s degree in business from the University of Minnesota. She holds the Certified Financial Planner professional designation.
– Midland National Life Insurance Company, West Des Moines, Iowa, a unit of Sammons Enterprises Inc., Dallas, has hired Nick Gerhart to be vice president, compliance/regulatory affairs.
Gerhart previously was a vice president of compliance communications at American Equity Investment Life Holding Company, West Des Moines, Iowa (NYSE:AEL).
Gerhart has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and a law degree from St. Louis University. He is a member of the board of the National Association for Fixed Annuities, Milwaukee.
– Securian Financial Group Inc., St. Paul, Minn., says Cambra Aasen is now president of Ochs Inc., St. Paul, Minn., a Securian unit of that acts as an independent distributor and sells benefit plans to public-sector employers.
Aasen previously was manager of group case underwriting at Securian.
– Summit Reinsurance Services Inc., Fort Wayne, Ind., has hired Kevin Wilson to be a regional vice president-product executive.
Summit Re sells excess-of-loss coverage to health plans and health insurers.
