Taylor to Lead Ohio Department, Regulatory Review

Ohio Gov. John Kasich, R, has picked Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor to be director of the Ohio Department of Insurance and head of an effort to update state regulations.
Taylor will succeed Mary Jo Hudson as the Ohio insurance director.
Kasich also has signed an executive order putting Taylor in charge of an Ohio Common Sense Initiative. As head of the initiative, Taylor will be responsible for making Ohio regulatory processes simpler, more efficient, and friendlier to small businesses and out-of-state businesses that are interested in starting operations in Ohio.
Taylor is supposed to develop a definition of “small business,” develop a process state agencies must use to analyze the impact of new and existing regulations on small businesses, serve as a point of contact for small businesses throughout Ohio, and make recommendations about restructuring other state operations that overlap with her own small business oversight authority.
Taylor is a former state auditor and a former state representative. While in the state House, she served on the House Finance Committee and Ways and Means Committee.
Before entering politics, Taylor was a tax accountant.
