INDIANAPOLIS October 14 (BestWire) — Stephen Robertson has been tapped to be Indiana insurance commissioner, succeeding Carol Cutter, who passed away last month.
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels announced Robertson’s appointment. Robertson, who has served as the Department of Insurance’s executive director since June, first joined the DOI in 2008 as director of the title insurance division. He went on to become deputy commissioner of the title and bail bond division.
He ensured the legal compliance of 41 insurance companies and 800 insurance agencies, as well as regulatory oversight of 375 bail bond and recovery agents.
Robertson worked for Conseco Insurance Group in Carmel, Ind., where he was senior vice president. Robertson has also served as general counsel of the Nebraska Department of Insurance and was a sergeant in the military police.
His appointment was effective Oct. 12.
Cutter, 67, died Sept. 6 after being on medical leave for several months. A cause of death was not disclosed (BestWire, Sept. 10, 2010).
