An insurer is running a television commercial that encourages consumers to base retirement planning on something more than guesswork.
ING U.S. Retirement Services, Windsor, Conn., an arm of ING Groep N.V., Amsterdam, says the commercial will show one man who is walking his dog while carrying a bright orange “retirement number,” which symbolizes his efforts to plan ahead for retirement.
Another man, who is trimming his hedges, has the world “Gazillion” sparkling next to him.
The second man admits to throwing money at the “Gazillion” figure and hoping for the best.
The ad is supposed to convey the message that retirement plan should be based on something other than guessing, ING says.
ING then will encourage viewers to visit a website, at http://www.INGyournumber.com, to calculate their own “retirement numbers.”
The commercial will debut Feb. 12 during the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and it will run along with other spots that emphasize the importance of knowing and protecting “your retirement number.”
In addition to running on NBC during the Olympics, the commercials will run on CNBC and MSNBC, and they will run during telecasts of a variety of sporting events on other channels.
ING also will be running banner ads on finance websites.
