  • Get Your Butt Out of Your Chair and Contact Your Legislators!

    January 8, 2010 by Sheryl J. Moore

I am happy to report that we have 69 co-sponsors in the House now and 12 in the Senate. But, do you know how many Congress persons it takes to get a bill passed? There are 535 people in Congress.

THAT MEANS WE ONLY HAVE 15% OF CONGRESS CO-SPONSORING THE BILLS THAT WILL SAVE THE FUTURE OF INDEXED ANNUITIES!

    That is not enough.

Now, all of you know that I am a busy lady. I track every single indexed annuity and indexed life product in the nation. I track the sales of the products every quarter. I do speaking engagements and write articles. I am working on my second book, and oh- by the way, did I mention that I have been in school full-time since last January?

That’s right- working on getting my law degree to help defind the indexed annuity industry! (Look out SEC and class action lawyers! A new lawyer will be on the block before you know it!)

All of that…and I still have time for my husband and kids. So maybe now you have a little bit better idea of just how busy I am.

And you know what? I’ve written letters to my legislators in Iowa three times since the proposal of Rule 151A. You don’t want to hear about how much I’ve called them!

HAVE YOU TAKEN TIME TO CONTACT YOUR LOCAL SENATORS AND HOUSE MEMBERS ABOUT S1389 AND HR2733?

If you haven’t, I’m disappointed. There is no excuse. Help me out here. This industry is like my baby. I quit my safe, secure position in an insurance home office just because I believed so much in these products. I don’t want to see them go away just because people thought they were too busy to secure the future of indexed annuities.

It only takes a minute. Please write. Call. Let your legislators know how many billions of dollars indexed annuities saved your client during the market collapse. Tell them about your grandmother being protected from the loss of principal due to market fluctuations. Tell them about your neighbor who earned a double-digit gain on an indexed annuity you sold him last year.

We all need to use our voice to make this happen.

American Equity is using their voice. They have organized a local call-in day for five states:

If you are a licensed agent in one of these five states, I especially encourage you to contact your legislators! If you need some ammo, see our Economic Impact Studies for what 151A will do to the economy. If you need additional talking points, see www.sec151A.com. And as always, for the latest information on 151A, you can see every article, blog, document, etc. on the topic on AnnuitySpecs.

P.S. If you’re obsessed with getting more legislators to co-sponsor the bills like I am, you can always track the number of co-sponsors we have on the House bill 2733 here. Track the number of co-sponsors that we have on the Senate bill 1389 here.
